The Power of Preventive Skincare:  Your Armor Against Time & Environment If there's anything 2023 has taught us, it's that prevention is always better than cure, especially when it comes to skincare. With an increasing awareness of the environmental impact on our skin and the long-term effects of neglect, preventative skincare has taken center stage. UV rays, pollution, blue light from our devices, and even weather changes can all take a toll on our skin. These factors can accelerate the aging process, leading to premature wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and uneven skin tone. Hence, it's crucial to adopt a skincare reg...

Healthy Skincare Tips!

Image
People ask me about my skincare routine, how old I am, what are my skincare tips and the answers are coming! First, I’ll start with a few tips here; then, in a few weeks, I’ll encourage you all to join me on my TikTok page for skincare tutorials and Q&As   https://www.tiktok.com/@dezdmc?_t=8ZLGWbccSg2&_r=1 My Skincare Tips for Young-Looking Skin!  Use the correct cleanser for your skin needs. Skin needs can vary from season to season; you may be a dry skin babe, yet in the summer, your skin may be more regular; the same is true for oily skin beauties in the winter. Oily skin gals may notice more dryness or normalcy in the winter, so switch it up! Don’t use too many products on your skin!  Layering on multiple skincare products all at once is a big no-no. It can be harsh on the skin, resulting in more breakouts and clogged pores. You need a few steps: cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer!    Additionally, steps such as lip balms, neck creams, essence...

Skincare Tips For Melanated Skin!

Image
Hey, Beauties; in light of Black History Month, I want to share skincare tips for all my melanin sisters of all ethnicities African, African-American, Hispanic, White, Indian, Indigenous, and every woman!     We all have melanin in our skin; people with albinism have white hair, pale skin, and blue eyes and thus no melanin. So what skin concerns does melanated skin have that are different than other skin colors? The differences in melanated skin gives a unique set of skincare concerns. Issues that are different in melanated skin are: Ashy skin- this occurs because of how dry skin looks as light passes through it over melanin pigment. The light reflection gives a grey-ashy look; however, on lighter skin, it’s less visible. Sagging skin- darker skin is more likely to sag than wrinkle. Hence the phrase black, don’t crack!  😅 Large pores- light absorption and reflection can make pores appear more prominent. Skin is perceived as oilier because it can be more visible an...

What is skin cycling? Is it for YOU!?!

Image
Let me preface this piece with these statements, "if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it" and "there is nothing new under the Sun"!   Respectfully, Dr. Bowe didn’t create skin cycling; she gave a name to an already established skincare routine. "The method was coined by  Dr. Whitney Bowe  …Skin cycling is a trend that became popular on TikTok, but skin care professionals have practiced the concept for many years,” says Amy Peterson, medical aesthetician. WHAT IS SKIN CYCLING? So what is the skin cycling routine: Skin cycling is a method of using skin care products in which you designate specific products for certain days rather than using all products every day, thus creating a cycle for your products, e.g., Exfoliate, Retinoid, Recover, Recover! Now that we have a definition, let’s break this issue down. Skincare cycling is using skin care products in which you designate specific products for certain days rather than all products every day, thus creating a cycle fo...
