Skincare Tips For Melanated Skin!

​ Hey, Beauties; in light of Black History Month, I want to share skincare tips for all my melanin sisters of all ethnicities African, African-American, Hispanic, White, Indian, Indigenous, and every woman!     We all have melanin in our skin; people with albinism have white hair, pale skin, and blue eyes and thus no melanin. So what skin concerns does melanated skin have that are different than other skin colors? The differences in melanated skin gives a unique set of skincare concerns. Issues that are different in melanated skin are: Ashy skin- this occurs because of how dry skin looks as light passes through it over melanin pigment. The light reflection gives a grey-ashy look; however, on lighter skin, it’s less visible. Sagging skin- darker skin is more likely to sag than wrinkle. ​ As the new year is here, it's time to start thinking about your skincare. You'll want to keep your body and face safe from the sun and harmful chemicals, so it's essential to know how long the products you use are suitable for—especially if they're something like sunscreen or moisturizer. Most companies have expiration dates on their products, so you can avoid wasting money. And since we're all busy with school, work, and other activities during this time of year (not to mention spring & summer planning!), trying not to waste money at all costs is very important! Sunscreen (6months - 1year) You can tell if your sunscreen has gone bad by checking its expiration date. If you use expired sunscreen, your skin will be more exposed to the harmful effects of sun exposure. This can cause premature aging and other skin problems.
