SKINCARE TYPES AND COMMON MISTAKES
We all have different skin types; this month, I will focus on Dry, Oily, Combination, and Acne skin types. Let me know in the comments your skin type and tips to help! First up: Oily Skin!
Oily skin is a problem for many people. It makes your face look greasy and can even cause breakouts if you don't take care of it. But what are some common ingredients that can cause oily skin? This post will tell you everything you need to know about the top culprits and how to avoid them at home or everywhere!
Avoid these common ingredients if you have oily skin.
Let’s take a look at some elements to avoid if you have oily skin. Avoid ingredients that are drying, irritating and comedogenic. These can cause breakouts and make your skin feel heavy and oily.
Parabens
Parabens are a group of preservatives found in many products, including cosmetics and skincare. They're used to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi, as well as preserving color. Parabens have been linked to breast cancer in women who use them regularly over time; however, most experts agree that there's not enough evidence to show that parabens cause cancer directly. 🚫Paraben-free products are becoming more common on shelves—and they might help you avoid some risks associated with this ingredient. However, if you're looking for a long-term solution for oily skin conditions such as acne or blackheads (using an oil-based cleanser), paraben-free products won't help you achieve clear skin overnight!
Sodium chloride
Sodium chloride is a big NO: Most soaps and makeup products have sodium chloride as a significant constituent. Sodium chloride is believed to add to the longevity and feel of the product. However, many people are unaware that sodium chloride obstructs the pores on the skin and causes pimples.
Natural oils
Natural oils do not work in favor of everyone. People will oily skin especially, find their skin to turn to the bad when they apply natural oils like coconut oil. This is primarily due to the high oleic content in them. Natural oils like these make it harder for you to keep your skin hydrated apart from making it greasy.
Alcohol
Please stay away from skincare and makeup products that have alcohol as their principal constituent. Products like toners that have alcohol in them, although they remove excess oil from the skin, strike out the skin of its natural moisture leading to over-drying of the skin. It dries out the surface of your skin and can cause irritation, breakouts, rashes, and redness. The best way to avoid this is by switching from rubbing alcohol to a more gentle option, such as witch hazel or apple cider vinegar.
Artificial Dyes & Perfumes
Skincare and Makeup products may have artificial dyes added to them; try Kbeauty for the cleanest beauty products. Lipsticks and blushes have synthetic dyes that add to the skin's sensitivity, block the pores, and escalate acne. Fragrances are known to cause problems like allergic reactions and even cancer. Try using plant oils instead! These natural oils will leave your face feeling clean without adding any additional shine or oiliness and a great natural fragrance.
Harsh scrubs
Harsh scrubs are customarily used to remove dead cells from the skin. However, over-the-top usage of harsh scrubs leads to skin irritation. It leaves the skin over-dried and results in increased production of oil.
Petroleum Based or Mineral Oil
Mineral oil is a petroleum-based product in many skincare products, including soaps and lotions. Petroleum Jelly or Mineral Oil on oily skin may cause breakouts.
Conclusion
The best way to avoid these common ingredients, if you have oily skin is to read ingredient labels carefully and look for the following: parabens, silicones, fragrance, alcohol, and mineral oil.
